Just finished my first playthrough of Fuga Melodies of Steel 2. Must say this was one of the greatest emotional experiences I've ever got from a video game or even any other kind of entertainment.
Moreover, I can't appreciate enough the fact that this game has made me reevaluate some certain things.
First, video games, especially story-based ones, should be considered as nothing less than a form of art, since they quite successfully fulfill one of its main purposes - exchange of feelings and emotions.
Second, the thing that may be seen obvious at the first glance - nothing shall be judged based on its appearance. But especially when it comes to art! Two months ago, I discovered this game series and it would be really difficult to describe how skeptical I was about purchasing the first game. In all honesty, It's still beyond understanding what went through my mind that evening, but now I can say with full confidence that "wierd" appearance will never become a weighting factor for me in evaluation of any kind of artwork. I consider it to be a special ability - the ability to not be distracted by what might look odd or unappealing from first look to see the very essence - those emotions putted by author or artist into his work.
Finally, artistic value of ANY art piece does not depend on the technique of performance, but rather on the emotional impact that it provides and may never be objective. (However, I have to say that I have no intention of lessening the importance of technique in general - it's important both for the artist to express his emotions in an undistored manner and for the observer to recognise them more easily)
Well, I wanted to speak out a bit and I did. Anyway, I'm most grateful to CyberConnect2 for their work, for the emotions given by their games and for inspiration for my little hobby. I hope things I've taken from my reflections will help me as a beginning artist.
